Full-color LED video screens continue to be a major application in the worldwide market. Full-color signs are found in all parts of the world. The physical characteristics (e.g., pixel size and spacing, or pitch) of these displays depend on the size of the viewing area and the distance from which the screen will be viewed. The number of discrete LEDS needed is determined by the luminance requirements (cd/m2 or nits). In general, large pixels (formed by clusters of red, blue, and green LEDs) placed farther apart are used for longer viewing distances. Because resolution is a function of the size and spacing of the pixels, indoor screens, while having smaller pixels and pixel pitch, also have a far greater number of pixels per unit area. Full color LED for indoor and outdoor signs are fastest-growing market.
